John W. Fitzpatrick, born & raised in Salt Lake City, moved to Carmel Valley in 1974 at the age of 22, after attending the University of Utah, and began working for a top local home builder as a carpenter apprentice. Realizing early on this was the career he wanted to pursue, John enthusiastically worked his way up the ranks to become a journeyman carpenter.
In 1975 John traveled to Kalispell Montana where he spent his days working as a carpenter building log cabin homes; while spending many weekends exploring the wonders of nearby Glacier National Park. Sometime later, John was offered an opportunity to return to California to work in the Los Angeles area for a large custom home builder, where he was able to further hone his skills and pursue his craft building homes in the Malibu Beach community.
In 1977 John felt it was the right time to branch out on his own. He studied and obtained his General Contractors License from the State of California, while relocating himself further south to the city of San Diego, and began operating his own small construction business remodeling homes in the Point Loma area. Later he also obtained a California Real Estate license; though John still had dreams of returning to the Monterey Peninsula one day to live and work in the place he most enjoyed. Then in late 1978 John made up his mind to return to Carmel, where he settled in and began preparations for starting a new business; and in 1979 he founded Caribou Construction Company.
For the past 30 years, John has been an active member of the Central Coast's construction community, while growing his business building & remodeling the Peninsula's finest homes. John and his wife Julie have been married for 26 years, now residing in Carmel Valley with their 2 children.
